The Centre of Research Excellence in Mental Health and Substance Use values diversity and inclusion and an equitable society. Our research strives to improve lives.

We recognise the marriage equality vote and debate is having negative impacts on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) community.

Discrimination of any kind, based on gender identity, race, relationship status, age, political opinion, disability or sexuality is detrimental to the community and their mental health. Marriage equality and the removal of discrimination will have positive effects for the LGBTIQ+ community.

We would like to extend our support and solidarity to LGBTIQ+ community and acknowledge their equality and their right to live free of discrimination and prejudice.

Equity is important to us and we therefore support marriage equality.
